Dr. Karbasi, a faculty member of the Faculty of Environment at the University of Tehran and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Waste Management Association, in a message commemorating Earth Day, announced the association’s serious commitment to assisting policy-making institutions and waste management authorities with the aim of improving waste management conditions in the country.
The message reads:
“The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, ‘Protect the Earth, for indeed it is your mother.’ Truly, this narration can be considered the greatest and most comprehensive environmental message for Earth Day. Humans are created from soil, nourished by the plants, water resources, and food provided by the Earth, sheltered by its resources, and all their growth and development take place in the embrace of the Earth. In the end, they will return to the arms of this kind mother. However, humanity has responded to this generosity of the Earth with increasing pollution and destruction.”
Undoubtedly, one of the most significant causes and factors of Earth’s pollution is the production and disposal of waste. Waste disposal is recognized as one of the top 10 environmental challenges globally, and this issue is even more pronounced in developing countries, including our beloved Iran. Designating a day as Earth Day highlights the importance of protecting the Earth. However, unfortunately, from the past until now, it has often been limited to slogans and symbolic or promotional activities on this day.
Iranian Scientific Association of Waste Engineering and Management, leveraging the scientific, technical, and experiential expertise of its members and a comprehensive understanding of current challenges and opportunities, seeks to practically and effectively realize the slogan of a clean Earth. By assisting policy-making institutions and waste management authorities in the country, the association aims to promote principled and scientific waste management, eliminating or minimizing adverse health and environmental impacts. It is hoped that with maximum collaboration among relevant institutions and organizations, we will soon witness the achievement of this goal and impactful actions.
